Keep Calm, your 2 weeks away from the most magical day of your life! At this stage it’s only the last minute bits to do, don’t go getting any ideas about starting a new diet, changing skincare regime, adding more people to your bridal party (or removing). The plans are in place and we’re here to guide you through the last few deets…

Bride under the Angel of Welcome at Westport House

Collect Wedding Dress

By now you should have your dress altered and are happy to collect your dress at your last fitting. It’s a good idea to have your final fitting 2 weeks before the big day in case there are any last-minute nips or tucks that need to be made it’s giving you plenty of time. If you are 100% happy with it then happy days tie to bring it home. When collecting remember to have as much space in the back of your car as possible so best not to bring the whole bridal party depending on your dress you may need to let the back seat down and transport it that way. When you get it hoe try and keep it hanging up in a room where it has space maybe lay the trial out and keep the curtains closed. Your dressmaker will be able to advise you on best storage anyway.

Finalise Seating Plan

At this stage, you should have all RSVP’s and an idea of what your final numbers are. Check your contract with your venue on what date you need to provide them with final numbers, it’s usually 3 days before the wedding. Let your wedding coordinator know your current numbers so as to plan your seating accordingly. If you plan on having place cards now is the time to get these ready.

The Long Gallery at Westport House

Visit Venue

You can do this the week before your wedding also but it’s good to have it out of the way once you have your final numbers. Make sure to bring with you your venue music, if you’re having entrance songs or a song played for your first dance. It’s really important to soundcheck these files with your wedding coordinator on your visit and to provide them with a USB or backup of the songs. Go through all placements here we, cake, band, and timings or everything. If you are bringing toiletry baskets/ place cards/ wedding favours now is a good time to drop of everything so its at the venue and ticked off your list.

Write Speech / Vows

If you plan on saying a speech, wheater you want to write it down or wing it on the day its a good idea to get thinking of what you want to say. Remember it’s your wedding speech or no speech its completely up to you!

Pack for Honeymoon

Especially if you are jetting away soon after your wedding, the last thing you want to be at is running in and out of Pennys the day before your honeymoon, you will be tired enough after your wedding, be prepared!

Tune in next week for the 1 week countdown!

4 weeks left until the big day. In the last 4 weeks, you get to enjoy the run-up to the wedding, the excitement the final plans coming together. Everything is in place now, and these weeks you need to concentrate on getting those ZZZ’s and looking after yourself and enjoying the lead up to your big day!

What you need to do at this stage…

Facials

If you have been getting facials your therapist will advise you on when to get your final one before the big day. If you just want one to get that glowing look and a refresh of your skin now is the time to get it done to avoid any breakouts that may occur as a result. Remember to make sure to ask your therapist which is the best facial for your skin type and 4 weeks before your wedding. Our Spa Manager Sarah in our Senses Spa at Hotel Westport recommends the Germaine De Cappuccini, o2 Oxegen Facial, it brightens dead skin without causing breakouts for a beautiful glowing complexion, find out more HERE

Make Suppliers Contact List

Your 4 weeks out and some of your suppliers you may not have spoken to you in a few months, so to put your mind at ease now is the time to check in with all of them and sort out those final details, what time they are arriving etc. A good idea is to make a list of all your supplier’s names and contact details and give it to your Maid of Honour or someone you can trust on the day. same applies for your suppliers give them the chosen persons contact details should they need anything on the day. If they do happen to be running late or they are looking for directions on the day the last thing you want is to be dealing with that so ensure that they know who to contact and vice versa that your trusted co-ordinator knows who exactly to call.

RSVPs

There is nothing more frustrating for anyone planning a wedding is those pesky no replies. Even though you might think if they haven’t replied they must not be coming, Wrong. Don’t leave it to chance. You don’t want them turning up on the day and messing up your seating plan. Just to be sure follow up with them, they will be the ones mortified they haven’t replied and some may be genuine forgot or “Sure I told your mum in the supermarket a few weeks ago I was coming” kind of thing. either way, you need to know for sure, so don’t be afraid to delegate this out get your parents and siblings to do the dirty work for you. There are only certain times in your life you can guilt-free ask for help from your family – now is one of those times!

Start Breaking in your Wedding Shoes

This is one all brides are guilty of forgetting about until the week before, but then its too late. If you are going to get a blister or two you need them to come out and be healed again for the big day. Wear them around the house in the evening while your doing chores or cleaning, start small 20 minutes and work your way up.

*Top Tip – at first if they are quite sore or tight, wear socks for the first few times it will stretch the shoes a little and make your feet fit comfy in them.

Table Plan

Start thinking about your table plan, once you have your guest list complete contact your venue and find out what their suggested layout would be with your final numbers. They may give you a couple of options depending on if you want the traditional Top Table or a round table in the centre of the room. either way now is a good time to start thinking about this as it may take a few days to get this finalised. It’s definitely something you need to do with your partner so you don’t out Aunt Mary beside your neighbour she doesn’t talk to (oh the fun)

KEEP CALM you’re nearly there! Stay tuned for next weeks edition where we count down to 2 weeks until you say I DO!

Wedding Planning Guide – 2 Months to go

If you have been following our Wedding planning guides you should be pretty well organised, if not don’t worry catch up here; Wedding Planner Guide 1, Guide 2 & Guide 3 and our latest Guide -3 Months to go!

Ok, so you’re down to 2 months to go, at this point your probably thinking “Have I forgot something?” … ” I have so much left to do”, well we’re here to assure you you got this! Ok, so let’s get started…

Send Invites

Usually, invites are sent between 8- 6 weeks prior to the wedding. Make sure to keep a list of all your attendees on an excel sheet and tick it off as you go to make sure you haven’t forgotten anyone. Make sure to utilise help from friends and family for this one, let them help you drop as many invites around by hand as they can, neighbours, a bunch to family here and there it will save you on postage! there will, of course, be some you need to post, be sure to check with your local Post office to get booklets of “Wedding Stamps” they are the same price but much nice on your invites! For those friends that are the other side of the world, why not send them an e-invite if you think it would be easier, at this stage you will already know if they are coming or not as they would have planned it so be smart and make life easier for yourself. Some suggestions McNamara Printers and All in Design, Castlebar

*Top Tip – Be sure to have a realistic RSVP date on your invites, if you want them all in by the 7th be sure to say the 1st, as with everything us Irish can be a bit Irish!

Plan your Ceremony Layout

You will want to start thinking about the layout of your ceremony, whether it is a humanist, civil, interfaith or religious ceremony, it is to you probably the most important part of your wedding (I know I know the dress is up there too!😀) So you want to make sure that you are happy with what’s being said and who is saying what. If you have decided to have friends and family do prayers or readings or blessing they need to be asked and given their piece. you also need to decide if you want to print off ceremony Booklets. If you are getting married in a Catholic Church you may need to run your reading/ sing choices by your priest first). If you do decide to get some booklets printed, there are plenty of cheap and cheerful options online from 6-page booklets to 1 fold leaflet of just an a5 piece of paper. You could also get them from the same company as your invites and keep them in the same design.

*Top Tip – If you ask for a priced for your invites, Mass Booklets and Thank you Cards together you have a better chance of being able to bargain a price!

Gifts for Bridal Party, Parents, Partner

When it comes to gifts its really down to personal preference. you may want to buy your bridesmaid’s shoes and bag or Jewellery and present it to them as a gift, mabey you and your partner have decided on a surprise gift to leave in each others cases for the night before the wedding or mabey you decide to keep your money and spend it on a killer honeymoon instead, either way do what fits your plan.

*Top Tip – If you don’t want to do the traditional flowers/gifts for the mothers, why not arrange a small Spa Day at a few weeks before the wedding, it will be a great chance for them to bond and a nice thank you for all their help & support. Senses Spa at Hotel Westport do fantastic Girly Spa Days and can also incorporate an amazing Afternoon Tea in the spectacular Westport House too!

Beauty Trials

ESSENTIAL …we cannot stress enough how important it is to trial, trail, trail. the run-up to your wedding is not the time to test out a new hair colour, waxing experiments or anything out of the norm. If you are planning on getting a spray tan for your wedding and havnt trials it already now is the time. You need to leave yourself time to trial a few if you don’t like the first one! This will also allow you to see how long before your wedding to get your tan done, you may prefer it 2-3 days after application.

*Top Tip – plan on getting your tan done before a night out or event, make sure to take plenty of pictures on the night and see what they look like, it will give you a good idea as to how it will come out and a great excuse to blow off some wedding prep stress

Organise Wedding Favours

If you decide to do wedding favours now is the time to start organising them. There are some great Irish websites that do beautiful favours at a reasonable price Favour Lane  and Do Me a Favour

Or maybe you will decide instead of spending money on Favours that you will instead give that money to a charity of your choice. Some charities will even send you out little placemats for you to place on your tables to let your guests know what charity you have chosen. Make A Wish Ireland is an example of one you can find out more HERE

If you have been following our Wedding Planning Guide up till now, you should be fairly organised, Go You!

At this stage, you are probably down to your last few months before the big day. so let’s just recap on everything we have already covered:

  1. Budget
  2. Guestlist
  3. Venue
  4. Ceremony
  5. Band Photographer
  6. Videographer
  7. Pre-Marriage Course
  8. Register Intent to Marry
  9. Wedding Dress appointments
  10. Wedding Cake
  11. Bridal Party
  12. Ceremony/ Venue Decor
  13.  Honeymoon
  14. Bridesmaid Dresses
  15. Flowers
  16. Hair and Make-up
  17. Transport
  18. Hen/ Stag Party (Very important information!)

Ok so let’s start the countdown –  3 months to go:

Wedding Rings

It’s surprising the number of people that leave this till the last minute but its something that can be done as early as you want. It’s a good idea to get your engagement ring cleaned around this time as well so the new shiny wedding ring looks great against it.

*Top Tip – go back to where you or your future hubby/wife bought your engagement ring and speak with them about whether or not they can offer you a discount seen as you are now willing to buy two more rings from them.

Wedding Dress Alterations

It’s a good idea to get these appointments booked in now. They will advise you on how long before the wedding they will want to see you they usually leave it till around 6 weeks beforehand and you could have your last appointment a few days before your wedding, as a lot of brides tend to lose weight or put on weight in the lead up to their big day from stress or being so busy (but this won’t happen you as we got you covered)

*Top Tip – Usually the supplier who you bought your dress from will provide you with a list of recommended dressmakers, usually, they have one that they would highly recommend. There is a reason for this and its a good idea to trust them. Going to a good dressmaker and going to a dressmaker who specialises in Wedding dresses is a big difference s choose wisely, after all its as important as choosing your dress.

Groom & Groomsmen Suits

You might have already looked at suits or decided what ones you wanted. But usually, there’s not as much panic on these as most Menswear have a good supply or can order in exactly what you want in a matter of weeks.

Arrange Food Tasting and Decide on Menu

Your venue will more than likely already been in touch about this but if not you need to arrange this tasting in the next few weeks. It’s up to you whether or not you want to bring friends or family along with you, usually, the hotel adds an extra price for this. It could also be the case that there may be too many opinions and you just want you and your partner there. you might also have an idea of what you will choose but be sure to try everything you want as you may be surprised. Also, listen to their advice on the wine pairing, again I cannot stress that their experience is so valuable.

*Top Tip – Don’t go hungry, when you’re hungry you might think everything tastes great. But you don’t want hunger clouding your judgment.

Vaccines for your Honeymoon

If you need vaccines for your honeymoon now is the time to start planning them. Talk to your doctor, they will advise you based on your destination. Check out the HSE Website for more information on travel vaccines.

Song Choice

This is one of the most exciting part of planning your big day it gives you a chance to both choose what songs represent you best as a couple and mean the most to the both of you, set aside an evening to listen and choose which songs you want, you will be going down memory lane before you know it. Remember if your getting married in a church check with your priest on whether or not he wants to see the song list. Also, check with the venue to see what kind of sound system they are using for your entrance song.

Stay tuned for next weeks guide as we continue our countdown …2 Months to go! Happy Planning ??

If you’ve been following our weekly guide, you will be pretty organised at this stage of the planning process. you will have an idea of what you want and don’t want and your vision of your wedding will be coming together nicely. So here’s where the fun begins. Follow these next steps to the wedding of your dreams…..

Bridesmaid Dress Shopping

This can be a tricky one to organise, that’s why this is the top of the list this week. Depending on your bridal party and their locations, it might be difficult to get everyone together and decide on a date to go looking for dresses. If you have bridesmaids that don’t live in Ireland, you need to think about your timeframe, because once you decide on a dress, the store may need to order it in and then you may have to ship the dress over to your bridesmaid for them to get fittings done.

*Top Tip You may have a colour scheme in mind, be sure to compare the colour against Ivory or White (depending on the colour of your dress) as it might be a little washed out in comparison or mabey it will look similar to you and that’s what you want!

Book Florist and Discuss your options

By now you will be sure of your colour scheme and what colour your Bridesmaid will be so you can discuss options with your florist. Don’t be afraid to put those Pinterest boards to good use and send on the photos you like, you are not a florist and you don’t know all the names of the flowers you like so let them tell you what will work and what won’t. Also, don’t be afraid to take their advice, some flowers may look better artificial for example if you want a wrist corsage on the Mother of the Bride, artificial may work better on the wrist as it might get a bashing through the day, let them advise you.

Research and Book Hair & Make-up Trials

You may or may not already have an idea of who you want to use, but first things first you need to inquire if they have your date available, then find out if they are willing to come to your house/venue or if you need to travel to them and decide if this is doable the morning of your wedding. Once you’ve decided that the logistics will work, book a trail. If you can book your hair and make-up trial on the same day so you get an overall look of what it will be like on the day, even better if you can arrange it for the same day as a dress fitting. we have an onsite Hairdresser and Beauty Therapist/ Makeup Artist who would be happy to do trials for you, they would also be available to get you and your bridal party ready the morning of your wedding in your Bridal Suite here in our 4 Star Hotel Westport.

*Top Tip – try and go out that night/day when you have your hair and makeup done, test its longevity, does it last, do you find you’re getting shining a few hours after application? We’re not saying to go out headbanging that night but you do need to know if that updo is gonna stay in or do you need more pins next time, are your curls coming out easily? Will it will last the whole day and night of your wedding? Plus with all this planning it could be an excuse for a well earned night out!

Book your Wedding Transport

Again by now, you will know what you want, a traditional wedding car, vintage car, limo or mabey your not too bothered about the wedding car and know somebody who has a nice car and is willing to drive you that day. But remember your Bridesmaids and Groomsmen will also need transport.

Hen / Stag Party

Let your Bridal party know what you want, not everyone wants the same type of Bridal Party or Hen night. If you’re looking for something a little different why not try something like a Down Town Abbey Themed Bridal Party here at Westport House.  Westport House provides a stunning backdrop for your classy, vintage hen party where you’ll go back in time and be treated like the ladies you are! Soak up the interiors, enjoy the story of this beautiful house, get crafty or have your own professional photo shoot while you sip bubbly and enjoy delicious treats!

Or mabey you want the best of both worlds, enjoy some Afternoon Tea in the decadent Westport House, followed by some gorgeous treatments in our Senses Spa, then retire upstairs to your room in our 4 Star Hotel Westport to get ready for a great night with our Onsite Hairdressers Sally K’s and with Dinner in our award-winning Islands Restaurant and then hit the town of Westport for some fun and let your hair down. Whatever kind of a night you want we have it all covered for you here on our 400-acre Estate so call us to get a quote for your customised Hen/ Bridal Party with a difference. 098 27766 or email info@westporthouse.ie

You should now be down to your last few months before the Big Day now so tune into next week’s edition to see ensure you have everything you need in the run up to your big day.

Happy Planning  ?

Last week, in our Wedding Planning Guide Week 1  we discussed how to get your wedding off the ground and the essentials that need to be booked asap once you start wedding planning. After those all important decisions are made, you don’t want to take your foot off the pedal. To avoid any stress during your wedding planning follow our easy steps for guidance on the next level of your planning journey. So to summarize you now have your Budget, Guest List, Venue, Ceremony, Band, Photographer/Videographer and the legal stuff nailed down. So whats next…

Wedding Dress Appointments

You may have a few places in mind to go wedding dress shopping and more than likely they are not all in the same place, so you have to have Saturdays planned and appointments made. However, every bride to be is more than likely travelling on a Saturday to these shops also so appointments can be made for months ahead. So pencil them in as early as you can.

Research and Book Ceremony Music

Decide on what kind of music you want throughout your ceremony this will make it easier to source the music. Do you want church Singers, Choir, Musical only? Maybe you know someone or have a relation that has a voice of an angel and you can only imagine them singing as you walk down the aisle. Also something to note is that, when thinking about your music, make sure that the type of music you choose is OK with the ceremony venue. some priests would prefer only gospel music during sacraments or full the whole mass and others you have complete choice and they wont even ask you to see a song list. But to avoid disappointment closer to the time best to check it all out first.

Order your Wedding Cake

Depending on what you had in mind its no harm to get this ticked off your list, you can always arrange the tasting again but at least if you have it booked and secured its something you can come back to.

*Top tip – you can get great discounts on Wedding Cakes at wedding shows, also it gives you a chance to taste them there and then having no need to revisit them again.

Bridal Party

Your nearest and dearest, before you can go bringing your bridal party with you to these appointments you must pick them! Discuss with your future husband how many you both want. this could change things, also weather you want flower girls page boys, a best man or a best woman. All decisions to be made before you decide on their attire. also it gives them the opportunity to plan your Hen party / Stag do with plenty of notice.

Book Pre-Marriage Course (if getting married in a Catholic Church)

When you book your ceremony, if its in a Catholic church your priest will tell you if you need to book a pre-marriage course and which one to book. Most of them are a Friday evening and all day Saturday, so its best to get this accomplished as soon as you can as your weekends will start filling up fairly quickly.

Ceremony / Venue Decor

It’s time to start thinking about weather you want to book decor for your ceremony, or venue or both. Check with your venue first to see what they have available most venues will have stock of centerpieces, cake stands, and tables and decoration for your drinks arrival. However, you might want to opt for something like a flower wall, prosecco wall, flower arch or balloons to dress your venue and add the extra oh la la.

Start looking at Honeymoon Options

If you plan on going on Honeymoon straight away now is a good time to start looking into these options and discuss where you want to go. You may need vaccinations and visas so best to look into everything now and get some quotes of different providers. Just remember while its great to book your own Honeymoon online, it can be stressful. Why not go to a travel agent and let them stress about all the details and transfers, your honeymoon is a once in a lifetime holiday and a very special time for you both so you want to make sure its in good hands.

When planning your wedding, there are things that are nice to know, and there are things you need to know—advice so essential any bride who’s lucky enough to hear it thinks, “I’m so glad someone told me that!” If you’re wondering whether there’s something you may have missed (or even if you’ve got everything under control), check out our indispensable planning secrets below.

Plan your Budget – Before you do anything else, you need to know what your limitations are.  Yes I’m afraid you may not be able to have the horse drawn carriage…it all comes down to budget. You need to be realistic in terms of how much you want to spend and can afford to spend. The last thing you want in the months leading up to your big day is stress and anxiety about money. Here’s a great article on One Fab Day all about planning your budget: https://www.onefabday.com/ie/work-out-wedding-budget/

Guest List – Before you can look at venues you need to know what capacity you need and what venue will best suit your wedding size. You don’t want to be crammed into a room with little room for dancing and equally you don’t want it to look like your wedding is sparse. So first things first, get a rough list of how many guests you will be inviting. Rule of thumb is that 20% of the invited guests may have to decline for whatever reason, this is the average so you can base your numbers on this.

Find your Venue – Now its time to choose what kind of a venue you are looking for, the venue is one of the most important things on your wedding day. Are you looking for the comfort of a hotel venue where large numbers can be catered for, something more intimate, something different where none of your guests have experienced before? Here at Westport House & Hotel Westport we have three amazing venues to choose from, each one catering for those individual tastes and adding something magical to your big day:

  • Westport House, rightly called the most beautiful house in Ireland, was built in 1730 and is enriched with old world charm and history. Have your ceremony on the west terrace overlooking the majestic lake and gardens, or in the breath-taking front hall with its Italian marble staircase. Then choose to dine and dance in the exquisite Drawing Room or Long Gallery. Photo opportunities are endless, with the beautiful outdoor woodland areas and over 30 rooms to choose from as your backdrop. Our venue is perfect for intimate parties of between 40-120 guests who are looking to be wowed by this truly distinctive venue.
  • Looking for something a little more relaxed, then our beautiful rustic loft and garden venue The Farmyard is the venue for you. It’s beautiful boho-chic feel is ideal for that couple who want something a little different with its relaxed garden, exposed beams and authentic stone walls. Also, an ideal location for your day after celebrations, with its outdoor garden area.
  • Have the best of both worlds with our award-winning Hotel Westport. Offering a more contemporary venue, with almost 50 years of experience in weddings you will be happy to know that our team can look after up to 350 of your guests to our exceptionally high standards.

[See image gallery at www.westporthouse.ie] Book your Ceremony -Do you want a church ceremony or a civil ceremony? If it’s a church ceremony – are you both the same religion? Any preferences on what church – have you got your heart set on your local one or does it matter to either of you?

If you’re thinking about a civil ceremony, are you thinking registry office or would you like to get married at a venue? Do you want separate venues for your ceremony and reception or would you like them in the same place?

Would you like to get married outdoors? It can a bit tricky to get married outdoors in Ireland (it’s weather, location and celebrant-dependent), but lots of couples choose to have a civil ceremony for the legal bit, and then plan their own ceremony in the location of their choice. All of these options are available to you in our 3 Venues and we would be happy to talk you through these and help you make a decision.

Find an awesome band

People will remember good food and good music! You want to have the dance floor full all night. Ask your venue who they would recommend, they have seen so many weddings good bad or indifferent and they will be able to offer a great insight into what you are looking for. Also ask friends, family that have been to other weddings. If you have a band in mind check and see if the have your date free, then ask them have they any gigs or weddings coming up, head along and see them there’s nothing like seeing your band play first hand to get a feel for how they will be performing the night of your wedding.

Decide on Photographer / Videographer

When choosing a photographer, they obvious things to look out for is style of photos and quality. But one of the massive things brides often over look is how well you gel with your photographer. you need to make sure he knows what you want and what don’t want, especially in terms of the schedule of the day. If you only want a few photos after your ceremony with immediate family, make sure hes not pulling in Aunt Mary and your 15 cousins. Remember he will be with you throughout your whole wedding day!

The Legal Stuff

Okay so once you have the big stuff secured you need to start thinking about the legal bit. If your getting married in a church, your priest may want you to complete a pre-marriage course. you will also need to give the state 3 months notice. You must make this notification in person to any Registrar. For more information click HERE

Congratulations, you have the hardest part done! Now its time to take a quick breather before you complete the rest of your list!

Check in next week for Part 2 of your Wedding Planning Guide…..

Top Tip* Let one vendor lead you to another. Your wedding photographer can tell you which florist’s blooms really pop, and your wedding manager should know which band consistently packs the dance floor.
