Culture Night at Westport House
September 16, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free
Culture Night comprises hundreds of events across Ireland and overseas. From nation’s capital to county town, everyone’s getting involved! Arts and cultural organisations open their doors until late with hundreds of free events, tours, talks & performances for you, your family and friends to enjoy.
Through the generosity of the Browne Family, Westport House will open from 6pm to 9pm welcoming everyone for FREE to enjoy this stunning home.
There has been a ‘big house’ on this site since the 1500’s, when Grace O’Malley, the famous Pirate Queen, built one of her castles here. The current house built in 1730 by her descendants, The Browne Family – the same family who still own and operate it today – has an abundance of treasures in over 30 rooms on show and 6 permanent exhibitions.
Take a self-guided tour of the house on Culture Night or join the 7:30pm guided tour to learn the story of this family who – against all odds – have managed to maintain this national treasure for the public’s enjoyment.
We look forward to welcoming you.
