Winter Wonderland at Westport House is a magical family experience brimming with Christmas cheer that will leave the kids starry-eyed and the whole family believing in fairy-tales!
Escape the wintry weather outside for the warmth of our cosy open fires in this stunning historic house. Parents will be welcomed with a delicious glass of mulled wine and kids will enjoy a tasty juice while soaking up the twinkling lights, lush green garlands and tinsel trimmings spilling festively from every corner of Westport House.
This Christmas season, in 2016, we have changed our magical event to offer a 3 hour Guided Experience for families visiting Winter Wonderland.
The guided experience will start when the whole family is welcomed into the front hall of Westport House by Santa’s Little Helper who will lead your family – along with a group of other families – through the guided experience.
You will start the journey with story-time by the fireplace of the gorgeous Drawing Room with a very warm welcome from Mrs Claus. Your next stop will include festive face-painting to really get you in the Christmas spirit followed by decorating your own delicious Ginger Bread Man in the Long Gallery.
Next, it’s time for the main event! Kids will be wowed with a very special visit to Santa in his magical grotto in the Dining Room where he’ll have a word with all children, give gifts and take photos to remember this very special occasion (you may take your own photos or avail of our professional photography service**).
After meeting Santa, you’ll be captivated by the elves hard at work in the Elves Workshop and you can even make your own yuletide log to take home for the Christmas table. And don’t forget the real spirit of Christmas with a visit to the Christmas Wish Tree (and we’ll donate €1 per family to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice for each family’s wish). Pop into the Old Kitchen Cafe for a free juice for the kids where you can also enjoy homemade sweet and savoury delights!
Our Train Driver will pick you up from the Old Kitchen Cafe to whisk you away to the Train Stop at the Back Door where you’ll hop on board the Westport Train to enjoy magnificent winter time views around the House before you depart.
With so much to do at our Winter Wonderland, you’ll cherish the special memories your family will share of this fun-filled and blissful Christmas-time marvel.
“Mrs Claus was outstanding – this whole experiencing was enchanting. The real fire, the story being told so well, the engagement with the children, the delivery of the spirit of Christmas was wonderful to hear.”

“When we returned home, I asked my children what they thought of the experience and they said they would give it ten out of ten. This meant a lot as they range in age from 3 to 11 years. We really enjoyed it. I found the staff very helpful.I was unsure if my eleven year old would enjoy but even she was very impressed. I have recommended it to family and friends and I would have no hesitation in going again.”
Your group visit will last 3 hours – this includes 25 minutes with Santa in his grotto. You might like to allow a little more time if you decide to have lunch or a snack in the Old Kitchen Cafe before you leave the house to take the Westport Train.
We have changed the experience this year to guide families (as part of a larger group of families) through all activities so you’ll have an escort or guide elf who will take you to each activity. This means that all families will get to experience each of the activities and it will keep queuing to a minimum (after all, queuing with excited little ones is not ideal!).
Please plan to be at the Reception of Westport House (inside the front door of the house itself) 15 minutes before your booked start time – at busy parking times, it can take up to 15 minutes to park and walk to the House. If you arrive after your booked start time, you will join your group wherever your group is in its guided visit as it is not possible to join in with other groups.
YES! We are sorry to appear “shouty” but this one is important.
It’s important to highlight at this point that we absolutely cannot reschedule visits or issue refunds for missed or cancelled visits so please check and double-check your preferred date and time before you book.
Please pre-book your visit to experience the magic of Christmas at our fairy-tale winter wonderland on the following days and times. Please note that each visit lasts up to 3 hours in total from the booking start time.
